Fanny Beury is a mixed-media artist who works with a variety of both ancient techniques and materials such as marble stucco and resolutely contemporary materials like resin. She has been lucky to be taught some disappearing techniques by a Master Compagnon du Devoir du Tour de France and Meilleur Ouvrier de France. While still learning today, the artist has decided to use traditional materials with a different perspective from the one originally intended, moving from a purely decorative purpose to an artistic approach. She creates unique sculptures and objects reminiscent of the world of nature, mineral elements, the animal kingdom.

After four years dedicated to the series of paintings Films de Rêve, she turned to sculpture. Primarily, she worked with wood, clay and plaster, and then discovered rare techniques and materials usually available only to the tiny circle of professional "matiéristes". The artist works through each phase of the creation of a piece herself, dealing with all the materials in the process (clay, gypsum, silicon, dry or liquid pigments, resins, glues, mineral concrete, lime, vellatura, etc). From the conception of the model (carved or modeled), the creation of casts, the sanding, buffing, coating, application of patinas, etc, the artist works in the tradition of high-quality craftsmanship.

On realising that there was no English equivalent to the French term "matiériste", she made up the word "matterist". This does not refer to the artistic movement of the 50s but describes the specific knowledge required to create, use and work a variety of materials and textures, often of high-quality, rare, sometimes antique, and traditionally used in luxury interior decoration. Her artworks are made with organic or eco-friendly materials.

She works and lives in Nantes, France .
